Annual Meeting

The AOCS Annual Meeting is a premier international science and business forum on fats, oils, surfactants, lipids, and related materials. Known world-wide for its extensive technical program, the Annual Meeting features more than 650 oral and poster presentations within 12 interest areas.

In addition to the three days of technical sessions, the Annual Meeting features a Hot Topic Symposia, Expo, variety of networking events, and the Awards Plenary and Business Meeting. The Annual Meeting provides ample opportunities for attendees to learn, reconnect with colleagues, engage with new business contacts, and meet with exhibitors.

Over 1,400 professionals from over 40 countries attend the Annual Meeting, representing the industry's most prestigious corporate, government, and academic institutions.

ISF Lectureship Series

AOCS is honored to host the ISF Lectureship Series at the 2018 AOCS Annual Meeting.

Founded in 1954, International Society for Fat Research (ISF) is a federation of 23 regional and national scientific organizations active in the areas of fats, oils, and lipid research. The ISF mission is to stimulate the exchange of high quality scientific information and technology pertaining to fats, oils, and related materials through global cooperation with fats and oils organizations by enhancing meetings through excellent, thought-provoking programming and attracting a larger, more international delegate base to meetings. To accomplish its mission, the ISF provides keynote lectures for presentation at a meeting of one of the member societies.

Since 1974, the ISF has honored Hans P. Kaufmann, the founder of ISF, by holding the Kaufmann Memorial Lecture every two years. The lecturers include some of the world's most renowned names in the field of fat research. What are the official dates of the 2018 AOCS Annual Meeting?

The official meeting dates are Sunday, May 6–Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The first official event is the Welcome Plenary Session featuring the ISF Kaufmann Memorial Lecture, which begins at 4:15 pm on Sunday, May 6. Some events, including Short Courses and committee meetings, will be held on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6, before the official start of the meeting.

Where will the 2018 AOCS Annual Meeting be held?

The main meeting venue is the Minneapolis Convention Center, located at 1301 2nd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN, USA.

When does registration open?

Pre-registration will be open November 1, 2017–April 20, 2018. Onsite registration opens Sunday, May 6 at 10 am inside the Minneapolis Convention Center. Onsite registration is open Sunday–Wednesday.

What meals are included in the standard meeting registration?

Annual Meeting registration includes hors d’oeuvres and beverages at the President’s Welcome Reception on Sunday, lunch on Monday and Wednesday, desserts on Tuesday, and beverages at the Happy Hour Receptions on Monday and Tuesday. Divisions, Sections, and Common Interest Groups organize luncheons and dinners, and tickets are available for an additional fee.

I am bringing my family with me to Minneapolis. Will there be activities for them to enjoy during the meeting?

Guest tickets are available for the President’s Welcome Reception on Sunday, Monday Lunch, Monday Happy Hour Reception, Tuesday Happy Hour, and Wednesday Lunch. Tickets are available for purchase on-site, or in advance by contacting Doreen Berning at or +1 217-693-4813.

When will the abstracts be available?

Abstracts will be available on a webpage for attendees only and within The App beginning April 18, 2018. Information on how to access the abstracts is included on your registration confirmation.

When will the registration list be available?

The list of all pre-registered attendees will be available on a webpage for attendees only and within The App beginning April 18, 2018. Information on how to access the registration list is included on your registration confirmation.

When will the itinerary builder be available?

AOCS is offering a mobile event guide that allows registered attendees to build an itinerary, search presentations and abstracts, connect with other attendees, and much more! Information on how to access The App is included on your registration confirmation.

What is the dress code?

Attire is business casual, and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes. We also recommend you dress in layers, as temperatures in meeting rooms can vary.

How can I obtain a copy of a presentation?

Presentations will be available on inform|connect in the AOCS Premium Content Library after the meeting. It is up to the individual presenters whether they choose to make their presentations available after the meeting.

Can I take photos or record presentations?

Video, still photography, and audio recording are strictly prohibited in all technical sessions. Video or still photography of poster presentations are prohibited, unless permission is granted by the author. Video or still photography of an exhibitor booth is prohibited, unless permission has been granted by the occupant. The only exception to the statements above is for working press with AOCS, provided press registration.

Are there accommodations for people with disabilities and those requiring special assistance?

Will child care be provided at the meeting?
