Student Poster Competition
Gain lasting career experience
Featuring a NEW format in 2024!
Navigating the challenges you face as a student can be hard. Between academic commitments, securing funding, and concerns over a competitive job market, it's easy to lose sight of the love of science that started it all.
Students like you are bringing creative solutions to global issues that will make an impact for future generations. The AOCS annual meeting is an opportunity to present your research to a network of industry veterans, receive recognition for your work, and ignite ideas to help our community address shared problems.
This year's student poster competition will take place in-person in Montreal. All students who submit an accepted poster abstract and attend the annual meeting will be eligible for the competition. Presenters must be a student at the time of the abstract’s submission.
How it works
Students with an accepted poster abstract will bring the poster to Montreal and must be present at their poster during their assigned time.
Each AOCS division will sponsor their own poster competition. Judges will be poster session chairs from the respective divisions. Judges will choose first and second place winners based on a common rubric. The judges will view the posters and ask questions of the authors during their assigned time to be present. There will not be a separate pitch this year.
Meeting attendees will be able to select an “audience favorite” in each division category. Attendees can vote for one poster in each division. Each division will have an “audience favorite” winner.
Prizes for each division
First place - $300, an AOCS membership and a certificate
Second place - $200, an AOCS membership and a certificate
Audience favorite - $100, an AOCS membership and a certificate
How to enter the competition
Submit a poster abstract and indicate that you are a student.
Specific instructions for creating your poster will be forthcoming.
