Organizers: Eric "Rick" Theiner, Evonik Corporation

A short course to provide an introduction to the concept of Experimental Design as it applies to formulation and Mixture Design.  The attendees will learn how to define a design space that encompasses all variables of interest, maximize efficiency in choosing the needed experiments to populate the data set, and use statistical tools to validate experimental results and determine the suitability of the model for the application at hand.  A brief refresher on the statistical concepts employed will also be provided.

Surfactant Fundamentals

Sunday, April 26
9 a.m.–12 p.m.

Organizer: Michael Tate, Research Scientist, Dow Chemical Co.

Surfactant science is an old field with many different facets.  While many texts have been written on the subject the breadth of information required to become a productive applier of surfactants and surfactant science is daunting.  This surfactant fundamentals short course will impact students and those new to surfactants by enhancing their skills through development of a sound technical foundation in surfactants from which to build future skills and from which to provide effective utilization of surfactants in their application of focus.

Pre-registration is required. Registration is US $55 per person (or US $25 for students).

Sustainable Use of Surfactants

Sunday, April 26
1–4 p.m.

Organizer: Michael Tate, Research Scientist, Dow Chemical Co.

With the ubiquitous use of surfactants comes the responsibility to use them in safe and effective means.  This short course will impact participants by challenging them to think about sustainable surfactants and more sustainable use of surfactants.  This is particularly true in applications where surfactants are used by end consumers and enter the environment.  The course will cover the impact of raw material choices to the environmental fate of surfactants after use.

Pre-registration is required. Registration is US $55 per person (or US $25 for students).
