This two-day program, presented by the AOCS Continuing Education Program, offers a high-level look at core aspects of processing edible fats and oils. It is suitable for non-chemists and people who are new to the industry as well as those with more experience who would like to refresh and update their knowledge. This hybrid course will be available in person in Denver, Colorado and online.
Day one provides an overview of fats and oils chemistry and extraction methods including seed pressing and solvent extraction before exploring processing steps and practices in more detail, including degumming, bleaching, winterization, deodorization, neutralization, and fractionation.
Day two focuses more on quality assurance, handling of finished oil products, and business considerations with sessions on storage and shipment, meeting regulatory requirements, plant safety and management, contaminant control, and sustainability.
Registration for all attendees includes a certificate of attendance and access to lecture recordings, slides, and curated supplemental materials that expand on course topics. In addition, all attendees are invited to attend the Opening Reception at the AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo on Sunday, April 30!
Who Should Attend?
Anyone working in edible oils and fats processing who would like to improve the oxidative or storage stability of their oils. Company managers and staff in sales and marketing, particularly those new to the field or overseeing new areas of business, will also benefit from this course.
