Calling all AOCS student members! Showcase your research to a global audience of like-minded scientists, receive real-time feedback, and have the opportunity to compete for prizes. Whether your research is ongoing or just getting started, we want to hear from you.
All AOCS student members are eligible to submit Lightning Talk proposals as part of the AOCS Call for Papers.

What is a Lightning Talk?
A Lightning Talk is a short-form, 3-minute presentation highlighting unique research and emerging science in the world of fats, oils, lipids, surfactants, detergents, proteins, and related materials. The goal is to provide student members a platform to share their research with the scientific community and foster greater collaboration. Learn more about the format by checking out this article.
What are the parameters?
Lightning Talks are 3-minute pitch presentations about your current research. The research does not have to be published or completed to participate.

Who is eligible?
AOCS student members are eligible to submit proposals. Not a student member? Join AOCS today and unlock even more benefits to support your emerging career.
How to participate
Finalists will compete for prizes at the AOCS Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, USA on April 27, 2025 from 8:30-10 a.m. Judges will select 10 abstracts as finalists.
Prizes: First $300, Second $200, Audience Choice $100
Ready to apply? Submit a 200-word maximum research pitch in general terms and one slide demonstrating your ability to appeal to a general audience. Select "Student Lightning Talk Competition" at the bottom of the list when asked for your interest area. Review the selection criteria.
Deadline for submissions is January 12, 2025.
